I am a long time JD fan, but, this one was a bit of a stinker for me. I did not like the artwork at all, very plain and flat. The story, though I understand was meant as light humor, fell flat, and just did not work well. It was disjointed, feeling like someone had a good idea, but just did not know where to go with it. Megacity 2 did not at all feel like it was in the same 'world' as the Big Meg, or even Hondo City. If you want humor in your Judge Dredd, look to a story like the Emerald Isles or something along those lines.

'Judge Dredd: Mega-City Two' takes Judge Dredd out of his city and put him in strange circumstances to see what happens. It's an interesting experiment, but I'm not sure it works.Judge Dredd finds himself in what used to be California as part of a Judge exchange program. He's also paired with a film crew and given a non-lethal gun. All the things he knows are put to the test as things are quite a bit more relaxed. There are strange stories about a giant mutated shrimp, and a criminal zone called Crimeland where Dredd is accompanied by two weird cartoon characters and meets a judge-like guy named Santos.The art by Ulises Farinas is detailed and great, but perhaps a bit too colorful for what I'm used to in a Judge Dredd story. There is a full page detailed cityscape in each issue that made me stop and study like a Where's Waldo picture. There is humor in all the nooks and crannies of the drawings. But I wanted Dredd to be, well, more like himself. I wanted him to get fed up and just start judging. The social commentary is sort of there, but it just lays there and doesn't do anything. I wanted to like it more than I did, but I'll give another volume of this remake a chance if given the opportunity.I was given a review copy of this graphic novel by Diamond Book Distributors, IDW Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

With a story by dedicated Dredd fan Douglas Wolk (check out his site Dredd Reckoning sometime) and art by the incredibly talented Ulises Farinas, Mega-City Two is one of the most fun Dredd books I have read in ages. I really wish Amazon allowed us to occasionally give more than five stars for stuff that is legitimately great and not just very good. Honestly I'll be keeping my eyes out for anything else by Farinas or Wolk.The plot is simple, years ago (before Mega-City Two was destroyed in the Judgement Day storyline) Dredd is sent to Mega City Two, built on the ruins of LA. Supposedly he's on an exchange, but in reality he's investigating a smuggling ring. It's more or less a standard Dredd plot (though with a frankly brilliant conclusion) but that's not the point.First off we have Ulises Farinas' incredibly detailed art crammed with references, in-jokes, clever layouts and fun stuff. He reminds me of a blend of Brandon Graham and Geoff Darrow but has a unique style all his own. For example while buildings and machines are detailed down to the last dent and rivet, faces are kept simple, almost cartoony, but still very expressive.Then we have Wolk's wonderfully insane vision of a Los Angeles of the future, were every block has its own laws and the Judges are armed with teddy bear guns that fire friendly bullets. And that's just the start of the insanity. While Dredd's Mega-City One is NY writ large with it's rudeness, impersonality and monolithic government, MC2 is LA taken to the extreme. Everyone is an individual, everyone has their own space, and it's all the Judges can do to navigate the chaos.The script is overloaded with jokes, references and Easter eggs. Wolk provides some helpful notes to explain the more obscure jokes, his vision and how he sees Mega-City Two working. Some might grumble that if you have to explain your work then you didn't do a good job telling the story, but I appreciate the added commentary especially since Wolk had only a few issues to present a complex world. Writers had years to build MC1, he had only 100 or so pages to build MC2.If it's not already obvious, I really recommend this. It's a great addition to the Dredd line-up, it's a fantastic story and satire and some of the best art I have seen in years.Seriously, buy it.

I pretty much had to re-read this three times to shake the fact that this is a more light comical version of Dredd. I hated the art at first, the way Dredd was drawn actually made me not want to read this - and I think people who shove their noses up at comics because of art work like they are some sophisticated art connoisseur instead of actually just reading the comic tend to annoy me. The artwork grew on me, the story was "eh" but I didn't really care because of the small jokes within the comics. Like when Dispatch tells Dredd they don't really enforce possession of a drug and he says "Maybe I didn't hear you right- did you say I should execute this drokker on the spot?" - It's funny. Theres a bunch of jokes within the artwork too, like "Suge Knight Federal Bank" and the fact there is an avenue named after Tupac.

Not the greatest of Dredd stories. Decent art, but the writing is fairly unimaginative - mundane scenarios, flat characters.

The art is wonderful... Ulises Farinas is a beast.

I have been waiting for this cookbook and I must say that I was not disappointed!!!!! This is the best cookbook that I have ever purchased!!!! The recipes are easy to follow and I made my first Cauliflower Pizza tonight!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!! This was one of the best recipes I have ever tasted!!!!I posted a photo of the last Alice left... In fact, my boyfriend stopped by after work because i was raving about how great the Pizza tasted. Her recipes are so easy to follow !!!!! Canâ€™t wait to try some of her breakfast recipes in the morning!!!!!

I didnâ€™t expect to read this book in one sitting. It was so familiar because I use a lot of the herbs, spices and pinches of goodness where I can. The recipes sound great and I must try a few of them. Like Laila, I use Turmeric in as many dishes as I can. I have followed her on Chopped. She is a great cook and is professional about whatever project she seems to be working on. I truly enjoyed her book. Continue to succeed on this book and any other endeavor you take on.

I love this cookbook! Lailaâ€™s Louisiana heritage shows through in a delightful way. I saw her Jumbalaya recipe in a newspaper and tried it. It was wonderful! I then bought her book. Her Gumbo was great. It was my first time to make a rue and it worked fine. I love her brown rice recipe. It turned out perfectly. Her spice mixes are handy and compliment her recipes along with everyday fare you may fix. I love that she puts nutrition at the forefront of what she does. You do not have to sacrifice deliciousness with her recipes just because they are nutritious. Her tips on nutrition are of great value. If you enjoy cooking and yummy results you will enjoy this book.

This cookbook is quickly becoming my favorite cookbook. So far I've made the green salsa, roasted tomato salsa, fresh ranch non dairy dip, oven fried wings and basic slaw..... everything has been delicious and my husband approves too. Looking forward to making maca muffins and live pickles next.

Item arrived in great condition. The recipes are really great, and easy to make. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking to eat healthier foods! I have incorporated more vegetables into my cooking, and decreased the amount of carb loaded foods. I have seen a significant difference in my energy levels. Also, makes a great gift.

Great recipes, easy to follow, tasty and healthy. It doesn't matter if it's healthy if it does not taste good. She also has great health information interspersed and swap outs for different ingredients you may have around the house. Got the kindle version too. Already mad 4 of the recipes in 2 weeks. yumm

I love these recipes! My favorite recipe so far is the "Chicken and Egg Breakfast Tacos". Delicious! Laila understands food. Better yet...she understands how important comfort food is to our daily lives. So far, there's not one recipe that I don't love. It's a must-have for your kitchen.

I found out six months ago that I'm a Mayflower descendant. Who knew? I've been digging around to find a book that explained it all to me. WOW, this book is super great, and explains a lot about the British persecution of those who didn't want to follow like lemmings on what the British government/kings were doing to people. There is so much her in this book, I have been highlighting a lot of it for my grandkids to read too. VERY understandable.

It takes some time to sort through and digest the wealth of information found in "The Mayflower". The "story" tends to jump around making it difficult to tie events together and so many names are introduced that it becomes hard to understand their relationship to each other. The writing style often makes you feel like you are reading historical fiction, which in my opinion is not all bad for such a heavy subject. A time line to follow would be helpful, along with a chart of the many people involved and their relationship to each other.

Beautifully written with lots of detail. This is not a quick read, but written for a longer more thoughtful read. It takes the reader through the reason why they came here to how they got here and what they did once they got here.

Very interesting and enlightening read about the voyagers on the Mayflower, before the leaving of England, and as they settle their new home land.

As a descendant of the Mayflower Pilgrims, I found this book very satisfying

This is a terrific book that skillfully weaves family history with the story of the Plymouth Colony, particularly early relations with the native population and ultimately, the conflicts and war that followed. I especially appreciated the backdrop of English history that provides the context for the Puritan migration, relations with investors, the Crown and the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The chapters on London in 1646 and Republican England help put this story in context and have been mostly left out of other histories of New England. Fraser develops a compelling narrative using first hand accounts, probate records and a wide variety of other sources. The reader get new insights into how first and second generation Pilgrims and Indians lived beside and with each other and how early good relations deteriorated. I couldn't put it down. We need more work like this!

Instead of being called The Mayflower, it should be called The Winslow's. The reading kept jumping around. But I gave up reading the book after the author had made the statement that Samoset was a Wampanoag sachem. Make no mistake , Samoset was an Abenaki. At that point I had to ask myself how many more mistakes were there, so I just stopped reading it.

The concept is basic â€” two people like each other, they enjoy being together, but they think they want different things in life and have different ideas of commitment â€” which makes this series instantly involving and sympathetic. What older reader hasnâ€™t been in a similar situation at some point?In volume 3, in a gender twist, Asukaâ€™s career takes off while Ryu has a romantic conflict from his past pop up. (Usually, itâ€™s the girl with the troublesome admirer and the guy with the work struggles.) Although itâ€™s more complicated than that â€” Izumi Miyazono plots like Shonda Rhimes does. Sheâ€™s not afraid to put in more twists, which provides a sense of movement and fast-paced interaction that suits Ryuâ€™s public career as a newscaster and event host.It also means the few moments Asuka and Ryu seize together feel like peaceful respites. The pacing mimics the challenges of the plot events â€” although donâ€™t get me wrong, their moments together are often quite hot as well, as the tension of their struggle to find time to be with each other is released for the reader in the scenes that give this an M (Mature) rating.Instead of artificial drama between the two leads, with the usual shojo recriminations and misunderstandings, I like that Everyoneâ€™s Getting Married is more likely to have a character make a self-aware realization, so that when they come back together, theyâ€™re better for each other. And I like that in Asukaâ€™s case, she likes and is good at her job, even though she ultimately wants to leave it.Ryuâ€™s good at his job, too, as we see him managing pushy reporters at a press conference to protect one of the interview subjects. I like the insights into how Japanese media culture works, with its cross-promotion and combined opportunities. But ultimately, this series is about romantic relationships, and mature friendships, and the choices adults make, which is a pleasure to read about and a nice change from the schoolgirl romances. With Volume 3, I am finding the same cliches used create drama in a relationship: former girlfriend, good looking new rival, and circumstance creating 'great misunderstandings'. The title is very sweet and certainly I appreciate that lead character Asuka is good at what she does at the office even though she wants to be a housewife instead. But I admit I'm hoping Miyazono creates something new here to make the series fresh and interesting. There has to be something more than the premise to keep me interested.Story: Asuka knows that Ryu isn't likely to ever marry her - despite that being her major goal in life. But it is enough for her now that he loves her and she loves him. But then Ryu has to work with the woman who created his anti-marriage feelings and Asuka has to wonder if he still cares for her. When one of Asuka's coworkers proposes to her and offers all that she had wanted in a relationship, she has to wonder if she is making the right choice to stay with Ryu.The intimate and romantic scenes of the couple are very sweet and the security of their relationship is only mildly compromised by all the new drama introduced in each chapter. I also liked that when Asuka complains about the selfishness of the marriage proposal, she is called out as being selfish in her own way for requiring marriage and requiring that she be a homemaker in order to find her happiness. It was a nice turning of the tables and caused Asuka pause.Most of the series is about interesting thoughts of what it means to be happy in a relationship. Is the woman who stays with an unfaithful husband actually happy despite her claims? Can a woman who wants one thing in a relationship but gets something else be happy? And can a man who sees only unhappiness from a union like marriage really find happiness if he marries and feels subconsciously trapped?Included in volume 3 is a short story entitled No Smoking For Nanaryu. As much as I love Viz's josei (adult woman oriented) titles, I keep hoping for more from Everyone's Getting Married than the standard tropes. What keeps me reading is that the relationship is gentle rather than melodramatic. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Ryu runs into his ex again, and there's rumors about them, and conflicting emotions inside him regarding her. She's a mess and he's being pushed to help her, while at the same time trying to stay true to Asuka.Asuka, on the other hand, has been proposed to by a man who wants the same things as herâ€”for her to be a homemaker, married with a husband. It's making her reconsider her real feelings behind wanting to be married and be a homemaker, and if it really is about a specific guy or not.It's interesting to see their conflicts about what's happening, their insecurities, and the ways that they find comfort in each other, even in just holding each other. It's heartwarming, honestly, and really sweet to see it.I love the maturity in all of this. Everything is handled with real thought and consideration, no freaking out for no reason and making rash, mindless decisions.I just want more books like this, and more of this series in particular. Oh, how complicated things are getting! Ryo and his ex-girlfriend keep getting pushed together at work. He's still adamant about not getting married but seems to be ok with living together. Asuka thinks they may not last forever if they just live together and now she's had a proposal from a colleague at work who is offering her everything she ever wanted! I'm enjoying this and like that it is aimed at adult women.
