Had to get this book for a class. By the time I finished it I was in tears over the changes in Sonqo and the natural progression of live. I see everything and everyone differently now. I'd recommend it just to get a beautiful peak into another life and time.

The Hold Life Has is a great example of ethnographic research. Perfect for an undergraduate anthropology class. Allen is interesting and engaging and provides great examples of anthropological concepts typically introduced to students in lower level anthro courses. Loved it!

Came in earlier than expected. Got it for school, but throughly enjoyed it

It was required for a college class and it was a really good read, out of the ordinary for an ethnography.

I don't love this book but that is probably because I didn't like the class it was associated with. The book itself was informational, but I never would have read or cared about it if I didn't have to read it. It is focused around the people of Peru that Catherine has lived with. I wouldn't consider it a textbook, but that was how it was used for me. Not necessarily a recreational read either...

Bought this for a college course I was taking ... this is a great place to purchase textbooks, I saved so much money! Books arrived very quickly and exactly as described. No complaints here!

this book was not too engaging. we had to read it for a class i took, and i wasnt as interested in it as i hoped to be.

I made the mistake of ordering all three, Dash Diet, Younger You, Everyday Dash Diet Cookbook and Dash Diet Weight Loss Solution. It was sold as a trio. I would not advise anyone to order the trio because Dash Diet Younger You and Dash Diet Weight Loss Solution are basically the same. I do not understand why they sell them like this. The diet is okay.

This book follows the Dash Diet Weight Loss Solution but in a revamped updated version. Marla Heller talks about everything that causes an inflammatory process in our bodies. I'm just beginning this part after completing the program in the Dash Diet Weight Loss Solution. The goal is to make permanent lifestyle changes..If you're not interested in those changes, don't bother. I strongly recommend this book as it is just common sense and so easy to understand the how and why's.

I just wish there was a book for single servings. The recipes are for 4-6 servings and that is too much for a single person.

This book has some great things but isn't going to be enough for some. My first problem with it is the sub-title. The sub-title is "Lose 20 Years and Pounds in Just 10 Weeks." This gets us off to a bad start. If you are 40- or 50-something, that's an appealing, but unrealistic, expectation. (But I have to admit it got my attention.)The author tells you a lot about why certain foods are bad for you. She puts in it terms of aging effects and casts any type of damage your diet may be doing to you into aging terms. That's how she argues that improving your diet will make you younger. That's fine, but I doubt it will make my 52-year-old butt looks as perky as it did at 32.Now, can you lose 20 pounds in 10 weeks on this diet? Maybe. The diet in this book is based on the DASH diet developed by the National Institute of Health with a little Dr. Perricone tossed in. If you follow these menu plans, you'll probably lose some weight and you'll do it in a way that should be safe for most people. The big question is can you/will you stick with it?The author's approach is a rational one, and I can't say there's anything wrong with it. The food plans offer a reasonable volume of food that should keep hunger at bay while providing proper nutrition. The recipes I've tried so far are pretty easy to make and good-tasting. The diet is "plant-centric" so there are lots of vegetarian meals, but she does include some meat options for those of us who would feel deprived without it. She doesn't give you a shopping list, which would be nice. Also, when you start to put a shopping list together for a weekly menu from this book, you will find you need a boatload of produce. If, like me, you have a vision of this stuff rotting in the crisper drawer, try choosing just 2 or 3 days of menus at first and work your way up. I was also disappointed that many of the recipes make 4 or 8 servings. This is tough on a single person, but if you don't mind repetition, you could alternate a couple of daily menus for a week.I do think there is a missing element in this book. Anyone who has been overweight for any length of time knows that losing weight is about more than knowing what to eat. Most of us have some kind of dysfunctional relationship with food that can overwhelm our knowledge of what is healthy to eat. This book doesn't offer any advice in this area. So, if you just need to know what to eat, this book will be fine for you. But, you can get all the DASH diet info at NIH.gov for free. They also have a ton of free recipes and resources. It's not quite as handy as having the 4 weeks of menus that the book has, but it's all there.

My doctor has put me on the Dash diet. This book helps alot. The recipes are great and easy to make.

A perfect guide for anyone wanting to shed a few extra pounds and follow a simple regime. This book explains the health benefits behind the diet, provides delicious recipes and offers even an exercise routine. I've read a few "diet" books, but this one is easy to follow, a lifetime guide for healthy living.

The general diet is balanced & sensible but I couldn't finish the two week metabolism reset. I'm a diabetic2 person on medication and my blood sugar would at times get too low. But otherwise this appears to be a good program. I started this because of blood pressure. I must say that my high blood pressure seems more stable but I'm still on medication.

I very much enjoyed this book not least because it settled for all time the whispered rumor of Arnie cheating at the Masters. Big tip of the hat to Michael Bamberger for tracking the story down and sticking with it. The book is well written and informative. I particularly liked the sidebar stories of caddies and also-rans. Well written and entertaining. My highest recommendation. Hurry up, Mr. Bamberger, and write another!

I've been a fan of Michael Bamberger's golf writing since his book "To the Linksland" which told of his year spent in Europe, caddying on the European tour and traveling around to the great courses (famous and unknown) in Scotland. His new book, "Men in Green," is a joy to read, not only for the wonderful stories of golf legends (famous and unknown) such Palmer, Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Aldophus "Golf Ball" Hull and Sandy Tatum, but for the lucid, well-constructed prose and for the care and generosity he has for his subjects. The trait of generosity...both financial and spritual...is one Bamberger often notices and comments on, whether it is a player who over-tips a caddy or Nicklaus, in defeat by a single stroke, putting his arm around Watson's shoulder as they walked off the green at Turnberry following their legendary Duel in the Sun. His open-mindedness, empathy, fairness, and ability to honestly assess and describe people without judgment demonstrates the type of generosity of spirit that he admires in others. As he travels around the country with his friend and former PGA touring pro, Mike Donald, Bamberger stumbles upon many remarkable intertwining of lives, loves and tournaments over the last 60 years and untangles some mysteries about those people and events along the way.

Just got around to reading this book. Bamberger provides quite a bit of inside information here, but seems really hung up on the Palmer-Venturi "feud" from the 1960 Masters ruling. I must admit that I have never been a Venturi fan, and this book enforces the opinion I had of the guy all these years. Then again, I grew up in Western Pennsylvania so maybe a bit of regionalism has been in effect. Bamberger comes from a unique background, having caddied on tour prior to becoming a journalist, and has made many interesting friendships along the way that show up nicely here. The book's title comes off a somewhat misleading, though, as I would think may potential readers might think it's focused on The Masters with the title and cover picture of Palmer and Nicklaus in their green jackets. There are also a few times when I completed a chapter and found myself wondering whey the information provided didn't appear earlier. But all in all, the author pulls few punches in this creative approach to the ancient and honorable game.

Although the dusk jacket picture and title are misleading, this is a warm look at golf and writing by Michael Bamberger. Just as John Feinstein's muse is Paul Goydos, Bamberger's is Mike Donald, a grinder who came inches from winning the US Open. Arnie's sex appeal and Jack's dignity are constant themes. Fred Couples and Ken Venturi are exposed as being less than met the eye. Bamberger is also strangely quiet about writing for SI the last two decades as if they paid the bills but no longer had the literary chops it did in its Herbert Wind and Dan Jenkins's glory days.

I'm a golf fanatic. I remember watching all these legends on TV as a kid with my dad. I wish he had taught me to play back then. Maybe he didn't think of it 'cause I'm a girl. Now I play all the time and volunteer at tournaments, including The Boeing Classic, a senior tour event, so I have gotten to see some of these Legends play. This book made me feel like I was part of their history.

Not a bad book, but a little misleading. I thought it would be a close personal look at some of golf's greats. While there are interviews with some of these legends of the game, the book's focus lies heavily on Arnold Palmer, Ken Venturi and Mike Donald (the author's long time friend, traveling partner and former journeyman tour pro) with the others on his list of legends only have chapter dedicated to them, and even then somehow Arnold and Ken managed to get worked in. You do get an interesting look into what life on the tour was like in it's golden age from the players and some caddies, plus there are some thought provoking quotes from some of the subjects.

I have read all of Mr Bamberger's books and patiently waited for this title to be released with great expectations knowing his knowledge and ability to write about this wonderful game of golf!!! I must say this book went beyond my high expectations!!! It brought tears to my eyes and made me laugh out loud!!! Without giving anything away, I must say that I love and respect Arnold Palmer even more than I previously did prior to reading this book(and I didn't think that was possible)!!! Also, I must add that my view of Ray Floyd has risen to great respect!

If you love golf (which I do), you will very much enjoy this book. Interviews with some of the game's greats, both famous and relatively unknown. Very much "insider" stuff, most of which I hadn't heard or read before, and it gave me a new perspective on several of the principals involved. The author is a golf writer and former tour caddie himself and was accompanied on his interview odyssey by Mike Donald, former PGA and Champions Tour player.
