I am very excited as my mother is Indonesian and I grew up eating the wonderful variety of foods. I am Dutch ( My father) served in Indonesia, ultimately marrying my mother. My Sister and I were born in Holland, and non the less spent our entire lives eating the delicious food of Indonesia. I am ecstatic to own this book, so that I may fill some of the gaps now that mom has passed on. it is a treasure.

It has some good recipes; some of the ingredients are difficult to find in my area.

This is a cookbook with interesting fresh looking recipes . I can't wait to try some of the dishes with theunusual spice combinations . Everything looks so inviting and light with a lot of vegetables to enjoy .

I don't even know where to be begin. This book was very much in need of a food editor and someone other than the author to test the recipes. On the pro side there are a few good recipes (the Savory Flat Rice Noodles are excellent as is the recipe for water spinach) and the photography is lovely, if a bit off. On the con side there are many more problems.First off, the need for a food editor. The Buckwheat Noodle Soup Recipe? It doesn't call for buckwheat noodles - just regular somen noodles. And the garnishes include raw bitter melon and raw garlic, both of which are overwhelming if you actually eat them uncooked in such a delicate broth. Some of the other recipes seems half finished. The Mushroom Medley Soup calls for inordinate amount of salt along with vegetable stock and soy sauce.Now for a pet peeve of mine (which may not bother other people) - I want the picture representing the recipe to actually be that recipe. In a rather disproportionate number of photos this isn't the case. There are ingredients in the photo that aren't listed in the recipe and vice versa. I see bean sprouts... not an ingredient, I see red onions... not an ingredient... on the flip side I see an ingredient that should be easily visible and it's not in the picture. As lovely as the photographs are they make me not trust the recipes.I could not recommend this book for any novice cook but if you are experienced and can spot things out of place it's not a bad purchase. A generous 2.5 stars.

I purchased this for my friends birthday because he had mentioned an interest in Indonesian food. He was very happy with the book.

Other entries don't mention any teenage rebels and instead function as opportunities for the author to grandstand about issues that he considers troublesome, such as "'Abstinence-Only' Education" and "No Child Left Behind." Perhaps the biggest drawback is the lack of photographs. Instead, illustrations in shades of black and gray accompany the text and seem to trivialize the courageous acts. Teenage Rebels documents the rebellious acts of youth from the colonial period to the present day in the United States. Each page begins with a new story of a teenager or an event that occurred at a school and sometimes occurred at workplaces. Filled with illustrations, Dawson has provided an excellent account of youth activism that all schoolchildren will enjoy. Even academic historians have something to take away from this.As a book targeted towards schoolchildren, Teenage Rebels succeeds in inspiring students with stories of youth that they can related to; however; it is quite clear that the author has an obvious political agenda. Some of the sections (which are two page) are not even about high school activism, but rather about school policies such as Title IX and No Child Left Behind Act where the author asserts his views about these policies. It is understandable that the author wants schoolchildren to take something away from this by creating a useable past.The subtitle is a bit misleading. Most of the youth in the eighteenth and nineteenth century were not actually “high school students,” or would have identified themselves as teenagers. I don’t think it is enough to say that “young people have always been politically active.” What’s more important is to demonstrate the impact of their activism and the larger meaning to the historical period. Another disappointing aspect is that the vast majority of stories in the book occurred after 1980. There are few passage that discuss the 1960s, and high school students were extremely active during that period according to recent scholarship.Nevertheless, even as a child’s book, scholars in the Ivory Tower can actually find this book to be useful. Scholars could look more into the various stories the author documented. There has been an article written about the Charleston, South Carolina sit-in conducted by high school students, so it’s apparent that many of these stories have richer details if investigated more thoroughly.

My son researched the football touchdown I did as the first female to do so in a male varsity game in High school. We came across this book, and page 114 describes me. I bought three copies and I am glad what I did has been recognized and this book to hand off to my son so he can see a single person makes a difference. I really appreciate that the author mentions how people who are different or abnormal from social norms can often be bullied or harassed. Nothing amazing comes from doing nothing, so we might as well be amazing. Very inspirational and glad to hand this book off.

Teenage Rebels is basically a non-fiction collection of one to two page stories about teens who have changed the world at different points in time. Now, I'm not usually the biggest fan of non-fiction books, however, if all books were as well written and as intriguing as Teenage Rebels was, non-fiction would be my favorite genre rather than my current favorite sci fi. I loved the way that the stories were brief, but informative.Having my own public charity, and being so involved in attempting to change the world, I enjoyed seeing stories of others who had made a difference in the world in which we live. My only problem with the book was that within some of the recollections the author was a bit biased about certain topics, such as one chapter in which he basically favored one style of education over the others. I just didn't appreciate that outlook and the author’s voice, in what was supposed to be a non-biased, non-fiction book.Overall, it was definitely worth reading and I would highly recommend it to any teens who are interested in learning about other people, and specifically people like themselves who are making a difference in their communities and world.Review by Meagan W., Age 12, Columbus Area Mensa

To challenge the above reviewer, I think the author's analytical brevity is intentional so the book can 1) serve as an easily-accessible supporting text for a larger course in which students can get through quickly 2) encourage follow-up research; It's intentionally open-ended. Haven't taught it yest, but I expect my students will find these examples to be a refreshing alternative to stale, fatalistic survey-style history. I also expect students to ask more questions after reading and Barrett chose not to answer for them. Bottom line, there's nothing this accessible out there about everyday acts of protest that puts teenagers in the driver's seat despite literally every major movement in American history being impacted by them.

Loved this book, and found the examples of teenage activists inspiring. In an age when Texas lawmakers are rewriting the textbooks, rewriting history itself, I think it is imperative that teens take responsibility for their education and their communities. They need to be aware of what is happening and use a combined voice to declare that they deserve better. This book gives many examples of teens taking a stand for equality in education, gender, sexual orientation, religion...they deserve to receive truthful and fair information and be allowed to formulate their own opinions. I believe this book shows teens that change is possible, and it is in their reach. The book provides examples of non-violent means of making a teenage voice heard. I only wish I had the financial means to get this into the hands of every incoming freshman.

This book is awesome. When i was coming into my own politics as a teen, most of the books i found were dense and academic. This is kind of book I wish I had gotten my hands when I was in high school. The stories of young kids fighting back throughout history is so inspiring. I can't wait until my nephews get a little older so i can read this to them.

Great book for a very young child

The setting is in the grandparent’s house. The young girl in this story recounts all of the things that she loves about Passover and the different things she eats with matzah. At the end of the holiday, she is tired of eating matzah. Like many observant Jews, she longs for the bread products that have been prohibited during Passover.On the last day of Passover, the girl watches her grandfather make matzah brei. Everyone is delighted to eat this traditional food with his/her own topping. She would prefer not to eat anymore matzah. After each of the family members provides his/her explanation for why Jews should eat matzah during Passover, the girl humbly asks her grandfather to make more matzah brei. This time around they work together to create the food.Each page has a delightful drawing by David Slonim that captures the sentiments of the characters. Leslea includes a lengthier explanation of Passover in the Author’s Note and also provides a glossary for the Hebrew and Yiddish terms that are used in the book.Both of Lesléa's picture books tell a family orientated story that revolves around the celebration of Passover Jewish readers will be able to connect with the traditions and the Yiddish and Hebrew words. I read this book to my students on the last day of Passover. Most of my students (first grade) were entirely unaware of the holiday and its traditions, but they thoroughly enjoyed this book! I needed to stop periodically to explain terms or traditions to them, so any non-Jewish teacher/parent might wish to familiarize themselves with at least the basic traditions of Passover before reading it. I myself am not Jewish, but looked some things up before reading it to students. The back of the book includes a small glossary of terms used within the book, as well as a recipe for the Matzah Brei that the characters make. My students really wanted me to make it with them! I think that if I use this book again in the future as part of a culture unit, I will definitely get the ingredients to make it! Reading this book also gave one of my newer students, who had attended a Seder this Passover, a chance to share what he witnessed and compare it to the Seder that Miriam in the book did. Overall, I think it's a fantastic book for the classroom, as long as the teacher is willing to do a little bit of outside research! I'm Christian, but we always celebrated Passover as part of Easter week as a child. I was so happy to find this book. My kids and I love it. Brought back lots of memories. Glad I can educate them about other religions!

Definitely not what I expected. The book is divided in three basic sections: Physical training exercises (~20%), Cooking recipes (~60%), and Meditation and visualization techniques (~ 20%).What really disappointed me is that there is nothing in the whole book related specifically to the sport of racquetball. The training exercises are quite general and can be found in any standard program to increase the physical condition. No single figure throughout the entire book!! So the authors uses wordy complicated descriptions of exercises routines that makes difficult the reading. The same applies to the nutrition information. Moreover, the list of detailed cooking recipes occupies 60% of the book, extremely boring if you are not interested in cooking food three times per day. Finally, if you are unfamiliar with general meditation techniques, the final 20% of the book could be useful as a basic introduction to the topic (this actually was my case, so this is reason why I set 3 stars).The only places where the word racquetball appear in the book is in the chapter titles. The author has published many other books with the same general information replacing the word “racquetball” by “basketball”, “baseball”, etc. The kindle edition is poorly edited, no table of contents included.In conclusion, if you are really interested in improve specific skills for racquetball this is not the book for you.

Probably should be re-named 'The Widows Resource If You've Been Left With A Lot Of Money And Don't Know What To Do With It'....I was hoping to find information on how to handle the loss of ones major source of income without becoming a bag lady......this is definately not the book for that. A good book though if you actually have money to worry about.

If one does any reading at all this information is easily available. The Funeral Directors generally give information on these generalities.OK for the price though.
