I have been reading this series since 2005. I adore the characters, plot, and comedic/romantic tones that it carries. The three volume combination is such a great money saver for me as I have been waiting to own this series for a loooong time now. The quality of the pages are thinner but that doesn't deter away from the art or contrast quality. Please continue with the series 3-in-1 and Yoshiki Nakamura, continue your wonderful work!

I love this series!

My granddaughter asked for these books for Christmas. She really likes the series. I ended up buying her all 18 volumes in 3 in 1 editions.

Would have been five stars bu VIZ edited out all the profanity. I can handle cuss words i promise...

Awesome series

Like nearly all Bloom County fans, I was thrilled to have Bloom County back. And actual Bloom County - pretty much everyone accounted for short of Hodge Podge and Portnoy (sad omissions). The first two books were good. It was the strip of old, just with a lucid Berkeley instead of the 4am cable watching maniac trying to hit his 5am flight deadline to DC. There's no getting that back and I am ok with that. However, this book has shed nearly everything that made Bloom County great. It's now considerably more saccharin and like Opus's place of rest at the end of the Opus strip - almost like this new Bloom County is Opus's dream than actually the Bloom County he "lived" through. The addition of Frank the Magic Janitor adds nothing but a sappy blanket to each story line. The strip morphed from Bloom County, when it returned, to Opus, now, and frankly, Opus is Berkeley's worst strip. And what the heck did he do to Lola Granola?!Where is the topical humor? Halfway through, I knew we'd never see Dr. O. Spock receiving boxes of dough or cat sweat hair tonic ever again. With a ripe, ripe topic of Trump, hardly anything is done with him. Even Binkley's nightly updates are impotent and dull. At least the few threads at the Bloom Picayune were the highlights of the book and felt like old Bloom County.I did not really enjoy reading this collection. It stays above one star simply because it's Bloom County and I can't possibly give it one, but it was close.

I have loved Bloom County since I was but a wee lad, have read every panel Mr Breathed has ever inked, and nothing so reliably brings a smile to my face and a twaddle to my turnips than a new collection such as this. His joyful absurdity and the optimism (opusism?) of his central character are much needed antidotes to the dark swaths of roomful newspaper headline ink spilled over the three years since Breathed rejuvenated Bloom County. He makes me remember the necessity of dragging myself away from my phone alerts to watch a simple sunset. So … buy his books.

It was not readily apparent to me that this was an online "book." Let's be honest short humorous books are most often read in a particular room of the house, and it makes a heckuva lot of sense for the books to be independent of computer capability. There is one room in the house where I am least likely to have my cell phone, and where I never take my laptop. I haven't opened the book, and, frankly, I may not get around to opening it.

Everything this man writes about is great, I can't say anything about the rest of what he does in life because I don't know him...for all I know he always leaves the toilet seat up.

As an avid fan I was beyond dissaointd and do no quite know what to make of. I am not even convince he wrote/drew. Per pays no pun intended only explanation I could think of was maybe he had a TIA and thinking pattern changed. Certainly not funny or like any of his past humor/work. It doesn't even make sense forget funny or clever. I am sad.

Not his best, but still pretty darn good. Goes for too many extended plot lines, with obvious sentimentality the target. Not a bad thing, but mid-stream self-edits to stick the landing are a touch jarring. Like changing the appearance of the janitor for no reason other than a different desired effect on Steve.

Best book ever. Author should get Congressional Medal of Freedom, be named artist in residence at the UN, and be made a Knight of the Round Table. Also, very funny and completely on point for our current existence. Please never leave us again, BB!

How can you go wrong with Milo, Opus, Steve and the whole Bloom County gang. Will be waiting for the next book to come out

Review

“It is exemplary in its scholarship, historical method, and originality. Above all, it speaks of a historical period and, in the way that it considers the period, exemplifies dance history research at its best. … Kowal's daring scholarship illuminates a period now a half century distant, and, in doing so, she says much about the continuing possibilities that dance offers.”—Michael Huxley, Dance Research Journal“A stimulating scholarly book blending U.S. history and an engaged active arts practice…”—Philip Szporer, Montreal Hour“The premise of the book is fascinating. ... It would be a shame if this book were only seen as a contribution to the field of Dance Studies and not also within American Studies.”—Kate Elswit, The Drama Review"Kowal's claim that dance did not simply represent change taking place elsewhere but actually enacted change is a compelling argument that choreographers and dance scholars will want to invoke when challenging the marginalization of dance."—Claire Croft, Theatre Journal"(T)his book is an important read for the dance community at large."—Gernadine Jennings, Attitude: The Dancer's Magazine“...Kowal nails it: she discusses Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, Anna Sokolow, and others in intriguing art/social/political/sexual contexts. Highly recommended.”—T.K. Hagood, Choice“As a vibrant blend of dance history and cultural context, this study offers precisely the sort of deep yet broad analysis I hope my students will emulate."—Jessica Van Oort, Dance Chronicle

Review

"Integrating dance into U.S. social and political life, Kowal's book demonstrates persuasively that mid-century dance initiatives contributed crucial innovations to modern dance while also vitally engaging with the tensions within the American body politic that would lead to the fights for racial and gender equality in the 1960s. Her research combines meticulous scholarship with a broad and insightful command of U.S. history."―Susan Leigh Foster, professor, UCLA"Kowal convincingly argues that the most salient point of postwar American dance was not the insularity of objectivism but the engagement of action. By questioning the normative movement practices inscribed on our bodies, choreographers like Sokolow, Cunningham, and Halprin bridged method acting and the sit-ins."―Daniel Belgrad, author of Culture of Spontaneity: Improvisation and the Arts in Postwar America

Over the last 8 or 9 years I have read a fair few books on this topic, but none as good as ‘The Storyteller’s Secret’.How good is this book when it comes to advice on telling stories? So good that I’m going to ask all students on the next Coach the Life Coach course to read it because coaches need to be able to tell great stories if they are to separate themselves from the competition. What Gallo does brilliantly is collate some of the most memorable storytelling throughout history and dump them all in one place. You may have heard about how Steve Jobs crushed his presentation for the first iPhone by telling the audience he had three new launches to talk about, when he only had one.Equally, you may well know how an interview with Bill Gates went viral just because the Microsoft founder drank a glass of water. And you could have heard about how Starbuck’s CEO, Howard Shultz, exploded a company based on the back of a very short story that wasn’t even about coffee, but an experience. However, I doubt you will know that one of the greatest orators of the twentieth century, Winston Churchill, spent hours simplifying his speeches and removing as many words with too many syllables as possible.Or that Churchill’s first attempt at public speaking was an unmitigated disaster.Or even that probably one of the most well known televangelists in the world, Joel Osteen used to be a nervous bumbling wreck before and during sermons. And you may not know why the last two sets of examples I gave were both in sets of three. But all of that is revealed in ‘The Storyteller’s Secret’.Gallo’s book is a treasure chest of ideas for blog posts, giving presentations, telling stories to help clients and even writing copy for a website. He demonstrates time and time again the unequivocal power of storytelling with, not surprisingly, dozens of compelling stories of his own.

Carmine Gallo attempts to explain how good stories are created and inspire through the examples in this text. He makes it clear that most great storytellers are made as a result of struggle or tragedy in their lives that they turned into victory. The author breaks down the types of stories as follows:- Storytellers who ignore our inner fire- Storytellers who educate- Storytellers who simplify- Storytellers who motivate- Storytellers who launch movementsThere's no doubt parts of this book are inspiring and that this author has proven his point through the stories of some notable people like Howard Schultz (CEO of Starbucks), Joel Osteen (American preacher), Richard Branson (founder of Virgin Group), Amy Purdy (world-class Paralympic snowboarder), Oprah Winfrey (talk show host), Winston Churchill (former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom), etc., etc.For instance, Steve Jobs (co-founder of Apple) used a violation of expectations when he announced in a presentation "We have three products...The first one is a widescreen iPod with touch controls. The second is a revolutionary mobile phone. And the third is a breakthrough Internet communications device." He repeated these three products again and then he violated everyone expectations by saying that they were not three devices. He said, "This is one device. And we are calling it an iPhone."Although this book is spot on with how certain people inspire, motivate, and exert a powerful influence through a great story, I did not find reading this a page turner because it was repetitive, long-winded, and the "secrets" were pigeon-holed into five different types of stories almost all of which could have fit any type of story. To me every story in the book educated, motivated, and simplified the message into something the audience could understand. The author, in my opinion, failed to heed his own advice of simplifying the story and instead crafted a message at least 50% longer than it should have been.So........ here is my story:I am an avid consumer who has become weary over the inferior consumer products that I wasted my money on and which have ended up in landfills. Therefore, as a hobby I decided to combine my love of writing with my desire to review products in order to empower others in making informed purchase decisions and spend dollars wisely in the hopes that they not lose money like I have. Please note that I received a pre-release book. In its current state, I feel this book is one that should be borrowed from a library. If the story were tightened up by about 50% (which I doubt it will be), then I might consider this worth the purchase.

This is one of the few books that a) I couldn't put down, b) I finished cover to cover, and c) recommended it, purchased it for or loaned it to others. Each chapter makes a different point and that's accomplished in 4-5 pages so it's very easy to pick up and put down. The content is absorbing, enlightening and hopeful. The point is made that people respond far better to compelling stories (especially about people overcoming obstacles) than "data dumps" as in Power Point presentations. Less is more and the story is everything. That's not to say that people don't need to know the numbers but they're moved to action by stories more than numbers. If you're a speaker or planning to make presentations I highly recommend it; I plan to make presentations in the future and this book made an indelible impression on me.

This was an ok book. Not great. It took a long way around to give just a little advice. I was hoping for more substance.

This is a powerful book that every working professional should read. It is compelling, evidence-based, filled with stories that not only educate but demonstrate the communication power of storytelling. I first bought and listened to the audio book (the author has a fantastic voice as well as writing style!) There was so much rich content that I wanted to capture, that I bought the paperback book as well. Taking that on a long plane ride with me. A resource that I will refer to and share with MANY times!

Amazon.com Review

Christmas in My Soul is the fifth in editor Joe Wheeler's popular series of heartwarming Christmas stories (previous volumes are titled Christmas in My Heart). This anthology begins with an introduction describing the transformation of the real St. Nicholas into the world-famous character of Santa Claus, emphasizing the spiritual significance of Santa's generosity. Wheeler's introduction sets the stage for six short, old-fashioned holiday stories, illustrated with beautiful woodcuts, about the everyday miracles that can happen on this hallowed Christian holiday. The stories' settings range from New York City to small towns such as "Hollis Hollow, USA." The characters in each story are struggling to live well, and they are taught to succeed by accidents of grace. There is always a moral to these stories, and each lesson warms even the coldest winter nights. --Paul Power

Why The Minister Did Not ResignAuthor UnknownOne of the first Christmas stories I can remember my mother reciting--almost all were by memory--is this one. My mother puts all of herself into her recitations: laughing in hilarious passages and crying in moving ones. This is one of her tearjerkers: to the best of my knowledge, she never got through this Hatfield-McCoyish tale dry-eyed. Neither did her audiences. He waited until she put the baby down, then he met her in the middle of the room and said it. "I shall do it next Sabbath, Rebekah.""O Julius, not NEXT Sabbath!" she cried out in dismay. "Why, next Sabbath is Christmas, Julius!"Julius Taft's smooth-shaven lips curled into a smile."Well, why not, little woman? It would be a new way to celebrate Christmas. Everyone likes a 'new way.' The holly and the carols are so old!""Julius!""Forgive me, dear; but my heart is bitter. I cannot bear it any longer. I shall do it next week, Rebekah.""But afterward, Julius?"The mother's eyes wandered to the row of little chairs against the wall, each with its neatly folded little clothes. There were three little chairs and the baby's crib. Afterward, what about those? They argued mutely against this thing. "Afterward, I'll dig ditches to earn bread for the babies--don't worry, little mother!" He laughed unsteadily. Then he drew her down with him on the sofa."Let's have it out, dear. I've borne it alone as long as I can.""Alone!" she scolded softly. "Julius Taft, you know I've been bearing it with you!" "I know it, dear; but we've both kept still. Now let's talk it out. It's no use beating about the bush, Rebekah, I've got it to do.""O Julius, if we could only peacemake!" she wailed."But we can't--not even the minister's little peacemaker wife. They won't let us do it--they'd rather wrangle."She put her hand across his lips to stifle the ugly word; but she knew it applied. "They don't realize, Julius. If Mrs. Cain and Mrs. Drinkwater would only realize! They influence all the rest. Everyone would make up, if they would. They're the ones to peacemake, Julius.""Yes, but Drinkwaters and Cains won't 'peacemake'--you can't make oil and water unite. There was a grudge between them three generations ago, and it's descending. I can't see any way out of it.""But on Christmas, Julius! 'Peace on earth, good will to men,'" Rebekah Taft murmured softly. The minister sighed heavily. "There isn't any 'peace, good will' in the Saxon church, Rebekah. "It won't be any special service. It will be just like all the other services, only the minister will resign." "But he will preach a Christmas sermon, Julius? Tell me he will!" pleaded the minister's little peacemaker wife."Yes, dear, he will preach a Christmas sermon to please his little wife."They sat quite silent awhile. The sleeping baby nestled and threw out a small pink and white hand aimlessly. The clock on the painted mantel said, "Bedtime, bedtime, bedtime!" with monotonous repetition. They were both very tired, but they still sat side by side on the hard little sofa, thinking the same sorrowful thoughts. It was the wife who first broke the silence. "Dear, there are so many things to think about," she whispered. He smiled down at her from his superior height. "Four things," he counted on his fingers. "Katie, Julius Junior, Hop-o'-My-Thumb, and the baby!""Yes, I meant the children. If you--"Julius Taft was big and broad-shouldered. He drew himself up and faced her. His lean, good face was the face of a man who would create the opportunity that he could not find ready to his hand. "Did the children's mother think all I could do was to preach?" he cried gaily. He could not bear the worry in her dear face. "She's forgotten I blew the bellows in my father's smithy. I can blow them again! I can find good, honest work in God's world, dear heart, never fear, and it will be infinitely better than preaching to a divided people.""Yes, it will be better," she agreed; and then they listened to the clock. The little church at Saxon had its feud. It had brought it a certain kind of fame in all the countryside. Other churches pointed to it with indulgent pity. Strangers over in Krell and Dennistown were regaled with entertaining accounts of how the Saxon congregation was divided by the broad aisle into two hostile factions, and no man stepped across."It's the dead line," chuckled the Krell newsmonger in chief. "No one but the minister dares go across! Those for the Cain side sit on one side of the aisle, and those for the Drinkwater side sit on the other. The gallery is reserved for neutrals, but it's always empty! They make it terribly hard for their parson over there in Saxon."The Krell newspaper was right. It was terribly hard for the minister at Saxon. For eight years he and his gentle little wife had struggled to calm the troubled waters, but still they flowed on turbulently. Still there was discord, whichever way one turned. Another congregation might have separated farther than a broad aisle's width long ago, and worshipped in two churches instead of one. But the Saxon congregation had its own way of doing things. Its founders had been original, and generation upon generation had inherited the trait. Midway in the week preceding Christmas, Julius Taft came to the little parsonage nursery, with signals of fresh distress plainly hoisted. "Well?"Rebekah Taft stopped rocking and waited. The baby in her arms lurched joyously toward the tall figure. "Well, Julius?""Please, ma'am, may I come in and grumble? I'm 'that' full I can't hold in! Here, give me the youngster. What do you suppose has happened now, little woman?""The church has blown up!" guessed Rebekah."Not yet, but the fuse is lighted. I've just found out about the Christmas music. I hoped they would not have any.""O Julius, so did I! It will be sure to make trouble.""It's made it already. That's IT! I've just found out that Mrs. Cain is drilling her little Lethia to sing a carol; you know she has a beautiful little voice.""Yes, oh, yes, as clear as a bird's. Why won't it be beautiful to have her sing, Julius?""Because Mrs. Drinkwater is drilling Gerry to sing," the minister said dryly."Oh!""And it won't be a duet, little woman."They both laughed, and the shrill crow of the baby chimed in. Only the baby's laugh was mirthful. The minister's worn face sobered quickly."I don't know how it will come out," he sighed. "They are both very determined, and the hostile feeling is so strong. I wish it might have held off a little longer--till you and I got back to the smithy, dear!"

Wish you could have been a fly on the wall of Number 10 during the EU referendum campaign? No need. This is the compelling insider's account of the man who was at the centre of the Downing Street web as David Cameron took the decisions which led to Britain voting to leave the EU.―Nick RobinsonA compelling book―Evening StandardPart memoir, part diary, this is one of the most vivid, frank and exciting inside accounts to have been written for years. It points its forensic beam into the inner sanctums of power during one of the most crucial episodes in British history since the war. Stunning and highly readable. It will make uncomfortable reading for a few, but hugely enlightening and enjoyable reading for the many.―Anthony SeldonCraig Oliver's account of his time as David Cameron's Director of Communications in Downing Street during the EU referendum will almost certainly prove to be the most important document for understanding what happened and why it all ended as it did. Oliver has managed the difficult trick of being frank as well as loyal, and his words have a remarkable immediacy. I found his book utterly fascinating, and I suspect that every historian of the period will regard it as indispensable to appreciating this extraordinary phase in our history.―John SimpsonA gripping fly-on-the-wall account of the frenzy in Downing Street during the EU campaign.―Robert Peston

Very revealing & insightful story of the remain vs leave campaigns leading up to the referendum. Eerie parallels with the Trump presidential campaign in US.

Fascination

Subtitled, “The Inside Story of Brexit,” this is the first in what will, undoubtedly, be many books about the referendum. It does, however, have a very interesting author – both in terms of his level of involvement and his access to the major players and in his obvious commitment to the Remain campaign. Craig Oliver was David Cameron’s Director of Politics and Communications and this book takes us through January, 2016, with Cameron renegotiating a deal with Europe, up until the aftermath of the referendum. The beginning of the book opens on the 23rd of June, 2016, with early suggestions that Leave has lost and Remain has won. Oliver is feeling that it will be close, but he is confident and, indeed, Nigel Farage concedes defeat. However, in politics, as we know, anything can change and, as the results begin to come in, optimism turns to pessimism. The Prime Minister texts, “How worried should we be?” Of course, we now know the result and this book then asks what went wrong and why…The referendum was a central promise in the Conservative 2015 election manifesto. It is clear, from this work, that Oliver believed that the electorate would not vote against their own pockets and that the economy would trump immigration as the primary concern. It was also assumed that the three million voters who had not voted in the recent general election would not turn out to vote in the referendum, when, many disaffected voters did, in fact, turn out to vote Leave. History is usually written by the winner – this is the story of the referendum from the losing side. This book begins with cries for the Remain Campaign to be more proactive and this is a theme which follows through the book. Another theme which resonates through the book is the disunity within the Conservative Party. So, within these pages, you read of the difficulty of getting the Labour party involved with the Remain campaign, and you can really sense Oliver’s sense of frustration with Jeremy Corbyn and the members of the Labour Shadow Cabinet, of his dislike of Michael Gove (which deepens as the book progresses), of Boris Johnson and his late decision to campaign for Leave and of Theresa May’s attempts to sit on both sides of the fence – a ‘submarine’ strategy of not being dragged into any particular side which worked very well for her. This was a campaign which many people, including myself, followed avidly. Through it all, though, you cannot help feeling that Oliver is often aware of what, ‘the man on the street’ thought, but just did not know how to answer their concerns. The Remain Campaign threw everything they had into the argument for the economy, but never really addressed the issue of immigration in a way that made much of a difference against those campaigning for Leave. Also, although Nigel Farage is mentioned, he is often mentioned disparagingly, or not taken seriously; despite the fact that he was seen, and heard, everywhere in the campaign. Whatever Oliver thought of him, it was obvious that he was ignored at Remains peril. Lastly, he often seemed to misjudge how things were seen by those undecided voters. For example, he applauds Obama’s visit to the UK, in which he warned the country that they would be, “at the back of the queue.” He is keen to say what a useful visit it was, how Obama would change minds and how positive his message was for Remain. Yet, many people at the time commented to me how disgruntled they were at Obama’s ‘interference’ and I felt that was one thing which really backfired in the Remain campaign.Overall, though, this is a really fascinating view of the campaign from the inside. Oliver comes across as incredibly hard working, focused and dedicated. He obviously thinks highly of Cameron and is keen to promote him as both an excellent Prime Minister and a down to Earth guy (when he calls Cameron he is invariably with his children or mowing the lawn). Although there is lots of insider gossip, Oliver is never really unpleasant about anyone. You sense he quite likes Boris for instance, although the one person he really criticises for being disloyal is Michael Gove. I found this a really interesting account of one of the major political events of my lifetime. I was, literally, glued to the news reports and newspapers throughout this period. As Oliver himself admitted though, the most listened to news report is the 8am bulletin on Radio 2 and he seemed to be pitching his message elsewhere. With the politicians obsessed with broadsheets and in-fighting, they really failed to capture the imagination of the average person, which cost them dearly.

Sir Craig Oliver's - he was knighted by HM the Queen - "Unleashing Demons: The Inside Story of Brexit" is, in many ways, a fascinating insider's account of the Brexit vote in the United Kingdom in June 2016. For American readers it offers a glimpse into the politics - and indeed the sociology - of our staunchest European ally that is, in many ways, being buffeted by the same populist wave that is impacting American politics. Yet, for all that it offers, in the end, Unleashing Demons suffers from the fact that it is a story told from a very definite perspective - the anti-Brexit view - and therefore in the end it does not give the reader anything close to a balanced discussion of the debate that rocked - and in many ways continues to rock - the United Kingdom."Unleashing Demons" is the memoir of Prime Minister David Cameron's media advisor. It covers, often in an almost day-by-day retelling, the events leading up to the Brexit referendum. For those who enjoy retail politics and the nuts and bolts of campaigning, it is a fascinating and fun read. For an American reader with an interest in British politics, it introduces people in the British political arena with whom they may not be familiar, but this really does not detract from the book. Its strengths are not in its portrayal of personalities but rather as a narrative of the pivotal moment of the campaign as seen from the viewpoint of an important participant in the Brexit debate. However, its merits, in the end, highlight its shortcomings. Sir Craig is an ardent Remainer and a Cameron loyalist. There is nothing wrong with that, but it makes him something of an unreliable witness. In his retelling, figures like Boris Johnson are always giving weak speeches and having uncertain debate performances. The "Leave" side is continuously portrayed as incoherent, inconsistent, dishonest and disloyal. There is never any sense that the other side has a valid argument to make. This lack of objectivity would be forgivable if the reader did not already know how the story ends. The reader would be left with the impression that "Leave' has no hope and therefore, when the end comes, the book could be seen as a drama with an unexpected plot twist. Unfortunately, the reader - unless he has been sleeping for the last year - does know how the story ends and therefore Sir Craig comes across as vaguely self-absorbed and unaware. Seemingly convinced of the virtue of his own side past the point of moral conviction, the reader keeps on saying to himself, "Yes, Sir Craig, but how could you have possibly lost to this ignorant and dishonest rabble?"Its a conundrum, and to his credit Sir Craig does seem to take a stab at answering by offering at the end of the book a short - really too short - chapter on "What went wrong." Here again, though, the author offers little more than superficial analysis. Turnout was too low among key groups. (Why is never explained if so much was at stake.) Voters were willing to vote against their own economic interests. (Really?) There was an anti-establishment wave. (A banality. The establishment failed because its arguments did, not the other way around.)To some degree, Sir Craig is a product of his brand of conservatism. Like its counterpart in the United States, conservatism in the United Kingdom is increasingly not conservatism as that has been historically understood, but rather classical liberalism. Classical liberalism places it emphasis on radical individualism and sees man as a creature unto himself, with outside attachments such a religion, national identity and the like being extraneous add-ons to his fundamental nature. Burke - the first modern conservative - spoke of this brand of liberalism as reducing man to "his naked shivering nature."Yet it is this brand that has been in the ascendant and it left the British Conservative Party without an intellectual well from which to draw when the questions surrounding Brexit began to revolve around immigration and national identity. Faced with an electorate that sought reassurance in a sense of identity, the Cameron government responded with an appeal to economic self-interest.Yet because man is more than just a cog in the economic machine, that response was destined to fall flat. It could work in a giant cosmopolitan city like London, the capital of a great country that is in many ways utterly unlike the country over which it presides. It could work in Scotland, a country that has not been an independent state since 1701 and therefore is looking for ways to express its separateness. However, in most of Britain, the cry was - ironically - to echo the national motto of Luxembourg, "Mir wëlle bleiwe wat mir sinn or Mir wölle bleiwe wat mir sin." (Luxembourgish for "We want to remain what we are.")For this Cameron conservatives and the Remain campaign could never offer a plausible reply and the singular value of "Unleashing Demons" is that it so effectively exemplifies the mindset that drove the "Remain" campaign. Sir Craig cheerfully announces that he is happily cosmopolitan and an immigration liberal. Therein lay his weakness and the book's flaw. He was so cosmopolitan, so worldly, that he became lost in a world of tidy abstractions. To quote Burke again, he was so consumed with human reason that he lost sight of human nature.Cosmopolitanism and a liberal view of immigration may be legitimate creeds, but Western politics is being rocked by the homogenizing effects of those creeds. Clearly, though, Sir Craig never understood this.In the end, then, for all his media savvy, Sir Craig ended up speaking a language that the other side never understood. In that connection "Unleashing Demons" is a cautionary tale. Too fixated on tactics, too convinced of their own virtue, too unable to understand the mindset and merits of the other side, the Remain campaign was ultimately blindsided by its own philosophical myopia and the price was - at a minimum - David Cameron's tenure in 10 Downing Street.Demons, it is said, exploit our human frailties. They did that in the Brexit debate, just not the frailties of the side that so alarmed Sir Craig.

Part 1:So, I'm a big fan of An's restaurant Crustacean. Love those Garlic Noodles. I made a dish: Crispy Garlic Chicken Wings. So, I marinating my meat overnight. I then followed the rest of the recipe as is. The outcome: it was lacking flavor, even with the lime juice. It needed a glaze to put on afterwards to bring out those flavors I marinated the meat in. And the fish oil smell and taste is STRONG. Needless to say, I wasn't so impressed with the dish but fed it to the family anyways cause I refuse to waste food. I am not a salt fanatic and was disappointed I had to add it to the meat after it was done just to enjoy it. Not a lot, just a little. I'm still in the process of making what I think are An's garlic noodles (Helen's Wok Noodles) to go with my chicken. Hopefully that part is more tasty. If it's just as bland, I plan to return this book for a refund.Part 2;The Wok Noodle dish was tasty and has more flavor than the chicken (followed recipe to the T). It's definitely not the Garlic Noodle dish at the restaurant. I was hoping that was in the book 😔. A bit of a disappointment.I will need to cook more dishes in this book to determine if it's worth more than 3 stars I initially gave it.

I received my cookbook today. If you're a fan of the Roasted Garlic Crab served at the An Restaurants, the recipe is not in this cookbook. This is my favorite dish. The recipe still remains a family secret. Needless to say, I'm disappointed. With that said, the cookbook is visually sound. I enjoyed the stories about the An Family. The recipes appear to be easy to follow. I'll update my review in a few months after I've tried some of the recipes.

I like a lot of the recipes in this book. I wish it had less about the background of the family and their restaurants.

Excellent recipes, have tried a few at home and very clearly written. The pictures and clean, crisp and nice to compare to the final product. Very informative and love learning about the history of the family and their explanations of the dish preparation.

Beautiful cookbook with amazing images and recipes. I am in love with Vietnamese food and An: To Eat is a treasure.

Amazing book and an amazing read. A must have to look into this cuisine. I picked it one day at a friends house and literally just poured through it because of information. It is not just a recipe book. Gives a lot of history on top of recipes.

Love the stores and recipes are very tasty!

Great book and a great family story.
